As I noted in an earlier post, I am in the process of building a windmill. Every summer I like to have to some type of project to keep me occupied and thinking. This summer I was motivated by the ever increasing rise in gas prices and my incredible cheapness to use junk in order to generate electricity. I decided to use a bike as the main component of the windmill because of the availability, a car alternator to generate the electricity, and a bunch of old marine and car batteries to hold the charge when the wind isn’t blowing. I fully realize that this is not even close to the most efficient method in generating electricity, but I really don’t care. I may build a better one later on, but this one will do for now. Here’s a picture of the windmill so far. I still need to mount the alternator and all that happy stuff.
